Women have continued to call for implementation of the 35 per cent affirmative action in order to trigger participation of more women in politics and governance as the 2019 elections is approaching.
Speaking with PLANET NEWS, a cross section of women in Uyo regretted that the 35 percent affirmation has remained merely as a concept without efforts made by government at all levels to actualize it.
According to them, giving women more opportunities to partake in governance would go a long way in solving societal problems.
It would be recalled that the Senate recently promised to include a Bill seeking to provide 35 per cent affirmative action for women in the Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill currently at the national assembly.
